How does the church defend the bible when many of the stories were previously writtin in other cultures?

There is nothing new under the sun, according to Ecclesiastes, and there is certainly nothing new in the Bible. What amazes me is how fundamentalists ignore the contradictions and anomalies in the Bible, and try to prove that it is an historically accurate doent.
